Lately, I’ve tried to use social media less. My main objective was to reduce the time I spent on Instagram Reels, and in these first three months of 2026 I can say that I sort of accomplished that goal, maybe partially.

The issue is that part of the time I spent on IG is now being wasted elsewhere, on LinkedIn. Kinda weird, but I think that the fact that it is a little bit more useful than Instagram makes me hooked while feeling a bit less guilty.

Introducing gnirt

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape of enterprise-grade solutions, I’m proud to announce gnirt: a groundbreaking, cloud-native, blockchain-enabled string analysis platform that leverages cutting-edge machine learning algorithms and quantum-resistant cryptographic protocols to deliver unparalleled performance in extracting human-readable sequences from binary data streams.

Just kidding!

Lately, I tried to allocate a bit of my free time to develop personal projects, focused on exploring in depth what interests me. The initial project of this kind that I decided to write is gnirt, which is a clone of GNU Strings binary utility written in C. But there’s a catch: it doesn’t use any
#include
directive!.

This summer, while I was on holidays, I read “Deep Work” by Cal Newport.

This book fits well with some thoughts I had lately about handling stuff in my life, so in this post I’ll list some takeaways I’d like to apply in my everyday life, and then my 2 cents on this book, keeping in mind that I’m not really well-versed in this kind of genre.

Deep and Superficial

The main idea of this book is that there are 2 kinds of “works”:

Hello all!

As the title of this post says, I want to do an overview of the CTFs i partecipated in during 2025.

Why? just because. I want to keep track of the progress, and maybe this will keep me motivated enough to partecipate in more of them? maybe!

The creation date of this post is: 18/07/2025.

This is the first post in this blog, but not the first in my blog.

The first time i decided to build a blog was in July 2021, i had the idea in my mind for some time but, if i remember correctly i decided to actually do it, bought the domain, the VPS and everything, after watching a video of Luke Smith (This one, i guess? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdKZVIGRAKQ).

The website was running on a Vultr VPS, and was built using Hugo. The repo of the website is still online, on gitlab.

Or, how to mess with little snakes, my gate, my car, and my neighbors’ wifi networks

Oblomov

Yesterday night, after reading a bit of “Oblomov”, a book that tells the story of this passive, indecisive and lazy man (is really a whole lot deeper than this, but anyway), a man who needs 200 pages to get out of bed, and even after that, it’s not like he stays up for long, I thought about one of the biggest efforts I make every single day, at the very least twice a day: pressing the button that opens the gate of my house to drive out to work, and after 8 hours, re-pressing it to get back in. Who is still pressing buttons in the big 2025?

The other day this video by LowLevelLearning appeared on my YouTube homepage. Despite the clickbait title, it intrigued me, so I bought a CH341A to do some experimenting (here’s the amazon link of the one I got).
Will this be the first post in a series? Maybe, IDK

Introduction

The vast majority of embedded devices uses one of these three types of flash memory to store the firmware that makes them work: NAND, eMMC or NOR flash.

Random writeups about OverTheWire Natas.

Decided to go there to focus a bit on web exploitation.

The writeup for each level is really short and basic, sorry for that. If you are specifically interested in a write-up of this challenge and are not here by accident, check this by Jack Halon.

If you really want to hurt yourself, scroll down a bit.

Natas 0

Right click > view page source

<!--The password for natas1 is g9D9cREhslqBKtcA2uocGHPfMZVzeFK6 -->

Natas 1

You can find the password for the
next level on this page, but rightclicking has been blocked!

Because of my imminent work in a Red team, I wanted to practice a bit with some CTF challenges.

I tried hackthebox, but I didn’t liked it because is too guided and “step by step”. I then went over to PicoCTF’s PicoGym. Even if it’s for high school students, I find it quite good.

Web Exploitation

Search Source - 100p

The developer of this website mistakenly left an important artifact in the website source, can you find it?

Here’s my write up of the first challenge of the Flare-On 9 CTF, and a log of my attempts for the second challenge.

I’ve managed to complete just the first challenge, which was kinda simple. I tried quite a bit with the second one but I stuck to a static analysis approach, which probably required more than my current skills in order to be successful. In any case, it was very interesting and I learned a bit more about Windows binaries
